Q&A with The Belligerents

Friday, 13 July 2012

Brisbane indie-electronic five piece The Belligerents have recently announced their forthcoming EP She Calls The Shots alongside an enticing run of dates throughout the country in July and August !

Below you can check our Q&A with them :

What's the story behind your band's name?
The name was suggested to us from a friend, when we had a week to come up with one - cos we had our first show already booked before we had a name.  Belligerent means being boisterous or hostile, engaging in combat. We've since discovered not many people really know what it means... Sometimes we totally forget.

How would you describe your music to those who don't know?
It's energetic and driving, but at the same time being kinda creepy and dark.  The two guitar parts usually are very complementary and the synths add that depth and warmth to the tracks.

Tell us about your EP ‘She Calls The Shots’. What is the main theme?
She Calls The Shots is all kind of based around a controlling ex-lover. A few of the songs on the EP kind of follow this story as it goes along - disillusion, the break-up, and finally stalking.

Is there any particular artists that influenced this new album?
Our main influences on this EP would probably have to be Metronomy, Caribou, Talking Heads, The Rapture and Foals.

You are going to have a tour soon! Getting excited?
Yeah! It's going to be fun roadtripping down to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide again. We haven't been down to Melbourne or Adelaide in about a year and we're pumped to do it again.

If you could play anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Somewhere exotic? On a beach on some tropical island perhaps. Or anywhere where it's snowing. Oh and there's that floating festival called Holy Ship, where it's a non-stop party for a week sailing around the Carribean - FUN.  Or Coachella would be incredible, that festival seems amazing.

Tell us 5 random facts about your band
- Konsti is German and grew up listening to minimal techno - maximum bass.
- White Stag (drums) can climb anything
- Jimmy could be playing soccer for australia if he didn't shred on guitar
- Andy is a male model
- Lewis can play the entire Spice Girls catalogue on grand piano
